Well, my fiance's father used to be an executive at VWoA, and since he knows of my unhealthy love for the Dubs he shared with me how they came up with the design.
Apparently the Rabbit pickup was not planned. The old method of moving the cars on and off cargo containers was via a crane with a basket suspended.
On day they were moving a late 70's bunny and it fell out of the basket and landed on its back. The yard workers took this otherwise prefect Rabbit with a crushed rear end and plasma cut off the rear portion of it to use it as a yard truck. Everyone used to fight over who got to use the cargo rabbit and eventually convinced someone up above to look into production.
Thus the Caddy was born.
He now is an exec at Subaru... i guess he's into the whole reliabilty thing... weirdo
He is very impressed by my Caddy though; who isnt?
